Gourmet food, a history written in gold and stunning scenery make the Great Alpine Road one of the great drives of Victoria.
Story By Don Fuchs
The Great Alpine Road, linking the rural towns of Wangaratta and Bairnsdale, Vic, winds its way across the dramatic spine of the Australian Alps. Sealed for its entire 308 kilometres, it can be driven comfortably in five hours. To experience the beauty and rich history along the way, however, this journey is best stretched over several days, with added detours and deviations from the main route.
