Subaru’s Outback wagon is a stalwart of the crossover SUV, taking the functionality of the all-wheel-drive Liberty wagon and giving it additional ground clearance for more all-road ability. It’s a vehicle made for the outback, without being a big, high-riding four-wheel–drive, and this has made it popular in both the bush and the ’burbs.
This year the Outback finally received a self-shifting automatic transmission to go behind its efficient Boxer diesel engine.
