Ben and Judy Bonwick’s King River Café serves up the best from the heart of Victoria’s well-known food and wine region
Story By Genevieve Barlow
Outback dwellers might chortle at Judy Bonwick’s description of her family’s café location. “We’re in the middle of nowhere,” she declares. It’s a fabulous overstatement of course, but understandable for a Victorian. The King River Café in Oxley, that she and her husband, Ben, own and run, is a mere 13 kilometres by car from the regional town of Wangaratta and is bang in the heart of the Milawa gourmet region in north-east Victoria.
Marketers say this is the home of La Dolce Vita, the good life.
